The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, delivered a keynote address at the HATMAN 18th International Conference and AGM, held from October 16th to 18th, 2024, at the Kapital Klub and Apartments, Asokoro, Abuja.
The Minister emphasized the transformative potential of digital innovation and diversification in Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism sectors, particularly amidst the backdrop of global economic instability.
During her address, Minister Ade-John highlighted the projections by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which foresees Nigeria’s tourism sector creating 2.6 million new jobs by 2032 and contributing over N12.3 trillion to the country’s GDP.
She underscored the need for stakeholders to leverage digital transformation as a strategic tool for enhancing competitiveness, promoting sustainability, and driving inclusive growth.
The Minister called for stronger collaboration between the private sector and government to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s tourism industry.
Ade-John also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing forward-thinking policies and initiatives, including a review of the national tourism policy and the development of a comprehensive tourism master plan.
Ade-John’s insights and vision for the future of the sector were met with resounding support from the audience, composed of industry leaders, government officials, and international partners.
This year’s conference, themed “Emerging Economic Challenges and Sectorial Survival: Implications for the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Nigeria”, provided a platform for critical discussions on the future of tourism in Nigeria.
Attendees explored how innovation and diversification can create resilient, sustainable, and competitive tourism and hospitality sectors that contribute significantly to national economic growth.
