Thirty organisations and ten individuals have been recognised in this year’s edition of the Routes World Awards.
Voted for and judged by airlines, the airport and destination categories recognise the organisations that have delivered exceptional route development marketing activities.
Under 5 Million category are Curaçao International Airport; Halifax International Airport Authority; Newcastle International Airport; Olbia – Costa Smeralda Airport and Tallinn Airport.
5-10 Million category are Adelaide Airport; Cape Town International Airport; Edmonton International Airport; Keflavik-Reykjavik Airport and Larnaka International Airport.
10-20 Million category are Budapest Airport; Calgary International Airport; Edinburgh Airport; Hamburg Airport and Prague Airport.
Over 20 Million category are Athens International Airport; Singapore Changi International Airport; Brussels Airport; Vienna Airport and London Gatwick Airport.
Destination category are Visit Cyprus; Japan National Tourism Organization; Malta Tourism Authority; Promotur – Canary Islands Tourist Board and Department of Tourism, Philippines.
Airlines category voted for by airports and destinations, the airline category focuses on the importance of partnership in achieving successful and profitable routes.
The airlines are Aegean Airlines; British Airways; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines; SunExpress and Wizz Air.
The Rising Star Award recognises the potential of individuals who are in the early stages of their career, who may be young but are already making an impact in the industry.
Shortlisted for the Rising Star awards are Michael Garko, Senior Network & Scheduling Analyst at Sun Country Airlines; Adda Malín Vilhjálmsdóttir, Key Account Manager Airline Relations & Route Development at Keflavík Airport; Sarah Bin Moammar, Sr. Specialist Aviation Development at Saudi Air Connectivity Program; Maricella Valdivia, Manager – Network Planning at Cebu Pacific and Nina Mulhall, Head of Aviation Business Development at Aeropuertos Argentina.
The Individual Leadership Award celebrates the lifetime achievement of an individual within the route development community, recognizing their contribution to the industry during the course of their career.
Shortlisted in the Individual Leadership category award are Trent Banfield, International Operations & Aviation Development Manager at Tourism Australia; Majid Khan, CEO at Saudi Air Connectivity Program; Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director, Communications & Marketing at Athens International Airport; Jay L Lingeswara, Vice President, Commercial at VietJet Air
The shortlisted individuals and organisations will now produce a submission that supports their nomination. The airport and destination categories will be reviewed and scored by a panel of airline judges. The individual leadership, rising star and airline categories will be reviewed and scored by a panel of editorial judges.
The winners will be announced at the Routes World 2024 Networking Evening on Monday 7 October.
