The newly appointed Chairman of the Hospitality, Tourism & Travel Tribunal (HTTT), Justice Ishaq Usman Bello (Rtd), met with the Director General and management staff of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) following the formal inauguration of the Tribunal.
Justice Bello’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the enforcement of Sections 40 and 44 of the NIHOTOUR Establishment Act and the 2025 Regulations, which establish the HTTT as the industry’s adjudicatory authority.
The Tribunal is empowered to address violations, enforce professional conduct, and ensure sectoral compliance.
The meeting served as a strategic briefing and reaffirmed the Tribunal’s core mandate: to provide fair hearing, redress grievances, and drive professional accountability within Nigeria’s hospitality, tourism, and travel ecosystem.
Director General Aare (Dr) Abisoye Fagade described the HTTT as a bold step towards regulatory integrity, adding that it will elevate service standards, protect consumers, and instill global best practices in the sector.
The tribunal will complement NIHOTOUR’s wider mandate, which includes registration of personnel, licensing of operators, and collaboration with enforcement agencies like the Nigerian Police and Immigration Service, to elevate standards and reposition Nigeria as a world-class tourism destination.
