Executive Secretary of NCPC, Bishop Stephen Adegbite

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all Nigerians on the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, marking 27 years of unbroken democratic governance since 1999.

In a Democracy Day message signed by the Director, Media and Public Relations, Mr. Celestine Toruka, Bishop Adegbite described the milestone as a significant achievement for the nation.

“Twenty-seven years of unbroken democratic experience in Nigeria is no mean achievement. Democracy remains indisputably the best form of government because its principles are anchored on the rule of law, fundamental human rights, and the separation of powers,” he stated.

The NCPC Boss noted that since the return to democracy in 1999, Nigeria has enjoyed global recognition, dignity, and respect among the comity of nations.

He urged President Tinubu to remain committed to democratic tenets and ensure Nigerians reap the dividends of democracy.

He also called on the President to immortalize those who died in the struggle for democracy and ensure their families are well catered for, so their sacrifice for an egalitarian society will not be in vain.

Bishop Adegbite commended the President for his sterling leadership style despite the challenges facing his administration, and encouraged him to continue doing what is right for Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary further called on Nigerians to continue praying for the President and his leadership, stressing that the Holy Book admonish believers to pray for those in authority.

He also charged citizens to pray for peaceful and successful 2027 general elections, saying “there is no cause for alarm, the perfect will of God will be done in Nigeria.”

Condemning recent abductions, Bishop Adegbite decried the “cowardly act of abductors of school children and teachers in Oyo and other victims in the North.”

He urged the Federal and state governments to do everything necessary to rescue the abductees and reunite them with their families, and called on the military not to relent until all are freed.

He wished all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.
