The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) heartily congratulates the newly elected executives of the Arts and Culture Writers Association of Nigeria (ACWAN) following their election yesterday.

This milestone election, which produced Mr. Tony Okuyeme as Chairman, marks a significant moment in the evolution of the former Arts Writers’ Organization of Nigeria (AWON) into ACWAN—a transition that aligns with NANTAP’s sustained advocacy for a more structured, professional, and impactful arts and culture press in Nigeria.

The newly elected officers are: Tony Okuyeme – Chairman; Tomi Falade – Vice-Chairman; Anote Ajeluorou – Secretary-General and Ngozi Uma – Assistant Secretary-General

NANTAP has consistently advocated for the growth of the creative industry through credible, informed, and professional press reviews of productions, with the objective of raising standards, improving quality, and ensuring more effective creative output. Arts and culture writers remain critical stakeholders in shaping discourse, preserving artistic integrity, and promoting excellence within the theatre and wider creative ecosystem.

The emergence of ACWAN and the election of this leadership underscore a renewed commitment to professionalism, accountability, and constructive engagement between practitioners and the arts press.

NANTAP is confident that the new executive, led by Mr. Tony Okuyeme, will reposition ACWAN as a strong, ethical, and progressive voice for arts and culture journalism in Nigeria.

NANTAP once again congratulates the entire ACWAN executive and looks forward to meaningful collaboration in advancing the Nigerian creative industry.
