The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) also joined several organisations in the country to congratulate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) on the occasion of his one-year anniversary in office.
In a letter signed by the FTAN President, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung on behalf of the Board and Governing Council of FTAN, he commended the president that under his leadership, the country has made remarkable efforts and progress in developing the various sectors of the Nigerian economy, and truly impressed by the significant achievements that have been realized during this short period.
Onung stated, “On assumption in office, you granted the yearning of the stakeholders in the tourism sector by creating a standalone Ministry, and under your guidance, the new Ministry is beginning to experience unprecedented growth and development. We have faith that this Ministry, when fully funded, will not only put Nigeria’s tourism on the global map but will also boost revenue generation and create more employment opportunities for many citizens”.
The FTAN helmsman stated further that one of the banes of tourism development in Nigeria is the lack of funding. Some State tourism budgets are higher than the federal tourism budget.
He therefore call on the federal government to release the take-off grant for the young ministry.
“We need a structured program for the industry that will enable us to move on a predetermined trajectory”, Onung concluded.
