The dynamic blend of Chinese and Nigerian cultures came to life at the China Cultural Center in Abuja, on Saturday, the 20th of April, 2024 as Government officials, Students, Arts Practitioners and Cultural enthusiasts convened to celebrate the 2024 United Nations Chinese Language Day.
The event aimed at strengthening cultural ties between China and Nigeria showcased captivating musical performances, dances, and poetry presented by artists from both counties; thereby highlighting the richness and variety of their unique traditions.
The presentations symbolized the strengthening relationship between the two countries through cultural interchange.
Giving her remarks as a special guest of honour at the programme, the Director General of Centre for Black and Africans Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), Hon. Aisha Adamu Augie emphasized the crucial role of language in preserving cultural heritage.
The CBAAC Director General underscored the significance of Chinese Language Day, noting her admiration for the Chinese people’s consistent promotion of their cuisine and language globally as a form of cultural diplomacy, thereby reinforcing their cultural identity and value system.
She urged participants present at the event to continually promote their different languages everywhere as it is a viable way to preserve our cultural heritage in an ever evolving world.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Mr. James Sule also commended the Chinese language’s ability to bridge cultural gaps and promote mutual understanding among people.
He opined that language is the instrument through which we promote cultural diversity, foster mutual understanding, and forge unity globally.
Prior to the event, Hon. Augie already paid a working visit to the Chinese Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday the 16th of April, 2024 where she was warmly received by the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China: Li Xuda.
The aim of the meeting was to explore avenues to build synergies in order to strengthen the bond existing between CBAAC and the Embassy.
In his welcome remarks, the cultural counselor congratulated Hon. Augie on her appointment as the Director General of Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) .
He commended her efforts in taking the initiative to ensure that the two organizations work together to strengthen the mutual bond and understanding between them.
Xuda assured her that the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China’s readiness to collaborate with the Centre, while looking forward to a wonderful relationship between the two organizations.
