As part of activities commemorating the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has honoured the founder of Royal Entertainment Cruise, Ibadan, Dr. Sanmi Bamidele, in recognition of his contributions to the growth and development of Ibadanland.

The event, held on Friday at the Royal Entertainment Cruise in Eleyele, Ibadan, also featured sporting contests such as table tennis and Ayo Olopon, with prizes awarded to the winners.

Speaking at the event, the President-General of the CCII, Chief Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, stated that the award was presented in recognition of Bamidele’s significant contributions to the development of Ibadanland, despite not being an indigene.

He further noted that the honour recognises Bamidele’s dedication to humanitarian service within the city.

“We are presenting this honour to him today in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Ibadanland, as well as his dedication to humanity, despite not being an indigene of Oyo State.”

“He pioneered a distinctive leisure concept—once exclusive to Lagos—by introducing a boat cruise experience in Ibadan, thereby enhancing the city’s social lifestyle.”

In her remarks, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, commended the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes for its continuous efforts in promoting sports development in Ibadanland.

She noted that the event would further enhance cultural promotion and help nurture local talents.

She also praised the founder of Royal Entertainment Cruise for creating a recreational hub where people can engage in various games while enjoying boat cruise experiences.

In an interview with journalists, the award recipient, Dr. Bamidele, an indigene of Osun State, expressed gratitude to CCII for the recognition, noting that the honour would motivate him to do more for Ibadanland, where he has lived for many years.

He urged Nigerians to initiate projects that add value to their communities and create employment opportunities for youths.

“I am deeply honoured today. It gives me great joy that the entire city of Ibadan has recognised our efforts.

“I encourage well-meaning Nigerians to embark on initiatives that positively impact their communities.

Such efforts will inspire the youth and create more job opportunities,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival, Chief Moshood Akere, called on indigene of Ibadanland to emulate Bamidele’s example.

He noted that the award was intended not only to recognise Bamidele’s contributions but also to encourage him to continue his good work.
