The Adire Carnival and Expo, an event to celebrates Nigerian culture and tradition through a local tie-and-dye art form popularly known as “Adire” is set to hold on 22nd February, 2025 at Captain Bower’s Tower, Oke Are, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Convener of Adire Carnival and Expo, CEO, Biztrait Exhibition, Mr. Ola Olaore the event put together in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism is a chance to experience Nigerian culture, celebrate tradition, and support the Adire business.
“Adire is a wax-resist art form that produces patterned designs in many colors. It’s especially common in the Abeokuta, Ogun State and globally known as one of Nigeria cultural clothes. Adire Carnival revolution will be a good opportunity to showcase the rich Nigerian arts and crafts thereby promoting our culture”, Olaore said.
He disclosed that the Adire Carnival and Expo endorsed by Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Oyo State has embarked on a mission to take fabrics to new level through exhibition and carnival, adding that carnival is open to all to experience the beauty and riches of the African culture.
Part of the programmes planned to hold at the event includes cultural performances, awards to notable tourism and cultural ambassadors and opportunities for the local artisans, designers and entrepreneur to showcase their varieties of their Adire fabrics.
“The event is free to attend and open to all as it also an avenue to explore Captain Bower’s Tower, Bowers tower is a historical landmark in Ibadan. It is a 60-foot tower that was built in 1936 in honour of Captain Robert Lister Bower. Adire Carnival is expected to attract top government officials and stakeholders in the Adire business among whom are Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Founder/CEO, Adire-Oodua Textile Hub, Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Adeyeye, the royal wife of His Imperial Majesty Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife”, Olaore concluded.
