The Polytechnic, Ibadan has made history with the unveiling of the POLYIBADAN TOURISM VILLAGE, a purpose-driven experiential learning and training facility designed to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and professional industry practice.
Developed by the Department of Tourism Management Technology (TMT), the Tourism Village provides students with a practical environment to gain first-hand experience across various segments of the tourism and hospitality industry.
The facility comprises Front Office and Guest Services; Travels and Tours Operations; Museum and Gallery; Production Kitchen; Restaurant and Bar; Accommodation, Lounge and Rooms; as well as Garden and Outdoor Recreation.
Beyond its educational purpose, the Tourism Village is conceived as an evolving tourism, hospitality, cultural heritage and recreation destination.
Planned additions include a Games Arcade, Outdoor Gazebos, Swimming Pool, Mini Zoo, and other exciting recreational and visitor-oriented facilities.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Chairman of the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Lanre Nasar, commended the Department of Tourism Management Technology for its initiative, vision and determination to develop such an innovative facility within a relatively short period since its establishment.
The Rector of the institution, Assoc. Prof. Taiwo Lasisi, also applauded the department for its remarkable initiatives and encouraged it to continue developing projects and programmes capable of positively projecting the image of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The Rector specially recognised Dr. Kola Lawal, the pioneer and founder of the department, for his passion, commitment and dedication to building a department that the institution can be proud of.
He also commended the students for their neatness, discipline and exemplary conduct, describing Tourism Management Technology students as among the neatest and best-behaved students in the institution.
The unveiling marks a significant milestone in the transformation of tourism and hospitality education at PolyIbadan, where students are not only taught the theories of tourism and hospitality but are also given the opportunity to experience, practise and understand the industry from within.
With plans for further expansion, the Tourism Village is expected to become a major practical training hub for tourism and hospitality students, while also serving as a potential destination for visitors, cultural enthusiasts and recreation seekers.
The official commissioning of the Tourism Village is scheduled for December 2026.
