The vibrant coastal city of Rimini in her bid to become the focal point of Europe’s aviation and tourism industries successfully hosted Routes Europe 2026, one of the continent’s most influential route development events.

Held at one of Italy’s leading convention centers, Palacongressi di Rimini from May 18 to May 20. The event convened over 1,200 delegates and representatives from more than 120 airlines to shape the future of global and regional air connectivity.

Routes Europe 2026 brought together airlines, airports, tourism authorities, and aviation stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to create new opportunities for connectivity, economic growth, and destination development.

For Rimini, hosting the prestigious event represents a significant milestone in its ambitions to position itself as a leading gateway for tourism, business travel, and international investment.

The gathering came at a critical time for the aviation sector. As passenger demand continues to recover and evolve, airports and destinations are seeking innovative ways to attract new routes and expand existing networks.

Airlines, meanwhile, are carefully evaluating growth opportunities in an increasingly competitive market. Routes Europe 2026 provided a unique environment where these interests converge, facilitating face-to-face discussions that often lead to new route announcements and long-term partnerships.

Routes Europe 2026 welcomed hundreds of industry leaders and served as a strategic platform where key decision-makers met to discuss future air service opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and shape the next generation of European air connectivity.

As airlines rebuild international networks and destinations compete for visitor growth, aviation conferences like Routes Europe increasingly shape tourism development, route expansion, business travel recovery, and long-haul connectivity strategies across Europe and beyond.

More than 100 airlines took part in high-level route development discussions, strategic partnership meetings, and aviation planning sessions aimed at strengthening air connectivity between Europe and key international tourism markets.

Among the participating carriers were Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, United Airlines, British Airways, KLM, ITA Airways, Air Arabia, Lufthansa, Air France, Scandinavian Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, WestJet, Icelandair, Wizz Air, and American Airlines. The airlines engaged with airports, tourism boards, and industry stakeholders to explore new route opportunities, expand network partnerships, and support the continued growth of global travel connections.

Networking remained one of the most valuable aspects of Routes Europe 2026, with formal meetings, networking receptions, conference sessions, and hospitality events fostering meaningful connections and long-term collaboration among airlines, airports, tourism boards, and other travel industry stakeholders.

Key events, including the Welcome Reception at ROCKISLAND Rimini and the Networking Evening at Piazza Malatesta, provided ideal settings for strengthening partnerships and expanding relationships across the global aviation community.

Prague Airport (PRG) took home top honors, winning both the Overall Winner award and the award for the 5–20 Million Passengers category.

Over 5,000 B2B meetings were held between network planners, airports, and tourism stakeholders. Discussions centered around sustainability, geopolitical impacts on aviation, and evolving airline route networks.

For the Emilia-Romagna region, the event served as a major showcase to boost traffic across its four airports (including Rimini) and secure direct intercontinental connections.
