The Carnival Calabar Commission has announced that this year’s Carnival Calabar theme unveiling ceremony will take place in Lagos as preparations intensify for Africa’s largest street carnival.
Organisers say the unveiling event, scheduled for May 31 at Eko Hotels, will officially announce the theme for the 21st edition of the carnival, a theme expected to shape performances, costumes and choreography for participating bands.
The event is also expected to attract key stakeholders, sponsors and members of the diplomatic community, with the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, billed as Special Guest of Honour, while Portugal’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Paulo Santos, will attend as Guest of Honour.
Ahead of the ceremony, Chairman of Carnival Calabar Commission, Dr. Gabe Onah, led a strategic engagement with executives of Multichoice Nigeria and Canal Plus as discussions focused on plans to digitally transform this year’s carnival and stream the event to a wider global audience.
Carnival Calabar, held every December in Cross River State, remains one of West Africa’s biggest tourism attractions, drawing millions of visitors annually with its colourful displays, music and cultural performances.
