The Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Ola Awakan, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board, to strengthen collaboration between the tourism and film sectors.
During the meeting, Dr. Awakan highlighted NTDA’s mandate to develop, promote, market and showcase Nigeria’s tourism assets to both domestic and global audiences.
He noted that tourism is deeply rooted in storytelling and emphasized the power of film in shaping narratives and projecting the rich culture, heritage and destinations across Nigeria.
He also shared plans for an upcoming NTDA initiative focused on telling authentic Nigerian stories and sought collaboration with the Board in driving the project forward. He further briefed the team on NTDA’s stakeholders’ engagement and the planned unveiling of the Agency’s tourism marketplace platform.
In his remarks, Dr. Husseini commended the DG’s energy and commitment to promoting tourism, noting the important role of film in encouraging positive storytelling and boosting inbound tourism. He also highlighted opportunities to leverage the Nigeria Indigenous Film Showcase to promote the country’s tourism assets.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to partnership, particularly through public private collaboration, to strengthen storytelling, culture and destination promotion across Nigeria.
