The leadership of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) and the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) held a strategic meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The meeting was convened to deliberate on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s hospitality, tourism and travel industry, with particular emphasis on the effective implementation of the NIHOTOUR Establishment Act 2022.
The discussions centred on key concerns arising from the Act, the professionalization of the industry, stronger government–private sector relations, and the urgent need for enhanced collaboration towards the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria’s tourism sector.
Both parties reaffirmed the need to address outstanding concerns through constructive dialogue, due process and sustained engagement, rather than allowing disagreements to persist through prolonged litigation.
A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish a joint NIHOTOUR–FTAN committee to review areas of the Act requiring clarification, deepen consultation, and develop practical recommendations that would be acceptable to both government and industry stakeholders.
Both organizations also pledged to promote higher professional standards, strengthen skills development and employment opportunities, sustain regular stakeholder engagement, and foster a more stable and investment-friendly environment for Nigeria’s tourism industry.
The meeting represents a significant step towards deepening cooperation between government and the organized private sector, with a shared commitment to building a more professional, united, resilient and sustainable tourism industry in Nigeria.
